FOOT MOBILISATION

Jeremy Hawke | October 19, 2011

When bones are unable to work in their normal range of motion, foot pain will often take place. Mobilisation of feet can be effectively used, to reduce knee pain, hip pain, and back pain. Poor posture can often be a result of poor foot function. The reasons for this are not all ways totally obvious at first. But the function of the lower limb bones and foot bones will often have a very large effect on posture. Very often the distribution of weight between both feet is affected, and the resulting strain on one particular foot can be very large. At Hip2Toe podiatry at our Cairns podiatry surgery, we will carry out a full examination and assessment of your lower limb and your foot bones, to establish exactly what incorrect function may be taking place in these bones. This is not a painful procedure to have mobilisation of the bones carried out. But correct function of these bones can very often only take place when mobilisation is used to correct their function. Changes can very often be noticed after one treatment, and sometimes additional treatments are required to improve foot and lower limb function. Were able to carry these mobilisations on children, adults and the elderly. Very often in competitive sports, bones can have their correct biomechanical function affected and result in poor athletic performance. Very often with a set of mobilisation appointments, athletic performance can be improved. So please come and see a see us at Hip2Toe Podiatry, and we shall work towards getting you back to the more functional and more comfortable gait or walking style, as soon as possible. Jeremy Hawke has had over 17 years of advanced musculoskeletal training, addressing sports injuries, workplace injuries, accident and trauma podiatric medicine, and treatment of conditions relating to arthritis, peripheral neuropathy, diabetes, and general medicine conditions relating to podiatric medicine.

INGROWN TOENAILS

Jeremy Hawke |

An ingrown nail can be extremely painful, and can result in you having much lower levels of activity, and often interfere with proper foot function. Sometimes ingrown nails are caused by ill fitting shoes and sometimes they can be caused by incorrect cutting of nails. It is crucially important to have an ingrown nail correctly examined, and as a podiatrist I am able to examine the nail, establish whether there is any inflammation or infection present, and organise a treatment plan to ensure that your return to a normal level of activity is carried out as soon as possible. We can carry out your ingrown nail examination at Hip2Toe Podiatry, at our Cairns Podiatry surgery. Very often it is necessary to find out why the ingrown grown nail is forming and put in place a treatment plan to ensure that the ingrown nail doesn’t return again. It is much better to treat the affected nail conservatively at first, and consider long-term surgical correction if it is required in future. Sometimes nail that appears to be ingrown, in actual fact is not. Very often the shape of the nail can influence the pain present, and sometimes there may be little corns present down the side of the nail in the nail sulcus. So, come and see me and we will carefully examine the nail, and treat the area with as little discomfort to you possible. If you require an anaesthetic, I am able to give you one, but very often this is not required. For further information and a movie, visit our podiatry services section.

Dry needling therapy at our Cairns podiatry surgery

Jeremy Hawke | December 23, 2010

By using acupuncture needles at our Cairns podiatry surgery, we are able to release areas of muscle spasm taking place at Myofascial trigger points.

You may have had trouble climbing down stairs or crouching into low cupbards for many years, or felt unsteady on your feet while walking. Radiating hip pain and groin pain may also be experienced when certain limb muscles are experiencing trigger points.

By  carrying out an assessment at our Cairns podiatry surgery, we are able to examine you and establish which regions you are having Myofascial regional pain in, and over  a series of appointments we are able to reduce these muscle spasms, and work towards a more favorable outcome.

Often many years of different tests and visits to numerous specialists has taken place prior to this therapy. So please give us a ring and make an assessment appointment. Bring a loose pair of shorts to allow examination of the hip region down.. This treatment is also ideal for practitioners who have experience in the evaluation and treatment of acute and chronic pain disorders as well as those clinicians who are seeking alternative, immediate and effective treatment options for the athletic population.

Many occupational and sports injuries may have previously not responded to other forms of therapy. We have a wide experience in treating muscle injuries and dealing with falls prevention strategies.  Our experience in the area of looking after athletes and occupational related injuries, has taken place over a 17 year period.

Australian Rules football and injuries to the feet and lower limb

Jeremy Hawke | July 30, 2010

Australian Rules football is a fast and fantastic sport , requiring extraordinarily high athletic skill to master the sport. Strength, speed, flexibility and agility are required to meet the demands of acceleration, direction change, jumping, passing, ball kicking and catching and teamwork. Avoiding injury is certainly one of the best ways to continue enjoying playing Aussie rules football. Knee and ankle injuries are common in ARF, as are calf area injuries. Metatarsal fractures, Achilles tendonitis and plantar fasciitis are also not uncommon.
